Coloured hair extensions for horses from Secret Strands in Australia |
Princess ponyarama- no it's not an April fool, coloured hair extensions for horses are becoming a mane fashion trend in certain equestrian circles. I first heard about them when I watched a leading UK show horse producer demonstrate how to enhance a less than luxurious tail with extensions of a more natural hue. I was actually a tad surprised this is allowed in the show world as to my mind it seems bit of a cheat. Luckily showing isn't my particular nosebag so I didn't get my breeches in a twist about it.
It seems that cowgirls are leading the way with this fashion for coloured extensions. You can get them from a few websites in the US including Coloured Horses On Parade who even do light up extensions-eek!! Mind you, they could be good for hacking out in the dark.
As a 'punk' at heart I've always loved colouring my own hair and have dyed it a brilliant red, white blonde, gone two tone with blonde on top, black underneath, sprayed it silver and used pink food dye. But when it comes to my horses I prefer to leave them au naturel not turn them into My Little Pony.
They definitely get a forelock shaking 'neigh, neigh and thrice neigh' from me although of course maybe I should never say neigh as they could be good for a charity ride! Now where's my glitter spray....
Silly and 'girly' or just a bit of fun-what do you think?
