angelina jolie does it aside!
I tried and failed to watch more than 5 mins of a Tomb Raider film once. However, I'm willing to give it another go having found this video clip of Angelina Jolie training to ride side saddle for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. I'm all for women being given more kick 'ass roles-why should guys have all the fun-and who better to play Lara Croft than the very athletic Hollywood bad girl, Angelina Jolie.
It's claimed that Angelina did most of her own stunts, although on various forums this seems to be under debate, but it seems obvious from this film about her training and shooting for this particular sequence that she certainly had the balls to ride a rather fiery Friesian side saddle and at speed too.
Angelina Jolie was given a leg-up by two of the best horse trainers in the film world-Gerard Naprous and his daughter Camilla Naprous from The Devil's Horsemen.
Camilla Naprous went to Ms Jolie's house in England every day for a month to train her and found Angelina to be a good rider who isn't scared to try anything. Camilla also ended up doubling for Angelina in the scene where Lara has to spin her gun at full gallop, but hey, come on, there has to be a certain point when you hand the reins over to the professionals!
Of course there's a lot of online snitching (sigh) on the lines of, "well I could do that if I had that horse and those trainers, yadda, yadda..' All I can say is 'lucky her!' but, even a good horse and trainer don't necessarily make you look this good unless you've got the bottle to go for it. Having said that, I'm sure a long black leather coat, would make me look pretty damn hot...hmm, maybe not with a helmet on though. Oh, queue another debate...no riding hat!
I'm really impressed by the ease with which she rides a horse and the positive way she takes on a challenge. If you read my last post on the importance of posture and 'power posing for confidence' then Angelina's bold mental and physical attitude is a great example. Take a look and see what I mean.....
I give Angelina full marks for riding with verve and style-do you?
If you watch Lara Croft Tomb Raider:Cradle of Life, look out for the continuity cock up towards the end of this scene. When Lara is shooting on horseback, she is shown riding aside, after the helicopter flies over she is riding astride, which just ain't possible on a sidesaddle!
