horses also come in...pink!

What's with all this girly pinkness? Now I like a little bit of pink, but it has to be the right shade to be cool.  Whilst pony princesses can't seem to get enough of it, now Disney actress and popstar Selena Gomez has gone one step further and had horses painted pink for the video of her latest single "I love you like a love song."

Unfortunately for Selena, this has unleashed a Twitter attack from fellow popstar, Pink, who despite her name, doesn't think all things should be of a sugary complexion. Spying the pinked up ponies on a Malibu beach she called on animal activists like PETA to join in. Oh gawd, don't rattle their cage!

Now, my objections are on the grounds of taste, but is it cruel? According to a rep for Selena Gomez an official from the Humane Society was on set supervising and a "non toxic, vegetable based powder paint" was used and "washed off with water".  But PETA  told Celebuzz 'there are no safe ways to paint a live horse or any other animal; they can have painful allergic reactions to chemicals and there's no way to know how an individual animal will react."

I wonder then, do PETA go around accusing Equine Colleges, who teach anatomy by getting students to paint horses, of cruelty? Or what about experts like Gillian Higgins, of Horses Inside Out, who travels the country giving educational talks on how horses move with the help of a lick or two of horse friendly paint? I hope not.

Or is this just a lot of hullabaloo over a girly hue, and a chance to bitch about a girl whose greatest crime is going out with Justin Bieber? Mmm back to that question of taste!

What do you think about painting ponies pink, or any other colour for that matter? Have your say HERE

  1. It amazes me that "celebrities" will lend their name to protest something silly like this but NOT stand up for things that really matter. Hey Pink, what is your take on the plight of America's wild mustangs being forced off their native lands by cattle and sheep barons that want to graze their animals on PUBLIC lands at the expense of American tax dollars??!!

  2. The horse in the photo' looks totally relaxed and in no distress, however, it does look totally ridiculous and bizarre. Oh well, the price a horse must pay for a little bit of fame !!

  3. It's def a question of taste not cruelty. Too Barbie for my liking but nothing for PETA to get their knickers in a twist over. As for PINK its releasing more records that would be cruel!

  4. in the world of Horse Shows, it's quite the norm and has been for years to paint white or black on the heads legs, tails and hooves of horses.
I expect the people concerned did a skin test on the horses before painting a whole horse, was there this much said when painted poodles were the rage.

  5. I don't think the horse looks one bit happy. Possibly it is skin sensitive because they left the whole muzzle unpainted. Maybe it's relaxed on Ace. Certainly the whole look is not up to the standards Lady Gaga has raised the bar to. I agree though, let's not rattle the PETA peeps. Good food for a nice blog post though!

  6. Thanks for all the comments. In the end because of adverse publicity the horses ended up on the cutting room floor-so their chance of fame went up in a puff of Pink smoke! I agree-Pink should stand up for the wild mustangs-probably too busy picking on rival popstrels. Yes, would love to see what Lady Gaga would come up with-I imagine it would involve horsey fetish gear lol

  7. I think it is simply ridiculous! I also agree with Dark Horse Designs... they never seem to risk their necks for things that matter...but silly little stupid things, they dive in head first.
Pink has plenty of videos that question her morale.. so maybe instead of worrying about celebrities who are def... better than her, maybe she should change her own style.
    Lesson:
Don't put your nose where it doesnt belong!
